In winter, when the cross-country ski tracks stretch out endlessly into the distance, the Engadine is the undisputed dream destination for all fans of this sport thanks to guaranteed snow and impeccably-maintained tracks. In the Engadine high valley and its picturesque side valleys, cross-country skiing is part of the winter sports culture. After all, it is one of the best full-body training methods - and it is conducted in the fresh air in the most beautiful landscape. Skiers can use the entire network of more than 200 kilometres of perfectly groomed cross-country trails, starting anywhere and anytime. Ambitious skiers will not miss the chance to tackle Switzerland's most famous 42 Marathon kilometres or to train on the St. Moritz race track. Those who are looking for more peace and quiet will find their favourite track and silence in one of the side valleys. Conclusion: The Engadine is a cross-country skiing paradise in a class of its own.
Two cross-country trails among many which we recommend:
On this part of the Engadine Ski Marathon the tracks lead mostly across the frozen waters of the Engadine lake plateau. Cross-country skiers glide along this flat, straight stretch through the wonderful expanse of the high valley and let themselves be enchanted by the scenery. An incomparable sporting experience, which can of course also be completed in individual stages.
Those who like to venture out on cross-country skis after nightfall will take their chance on the floodlit night trail in St. Moritz Bad. Laid out for classic and skating, the cross-country track entails a total altitude difference of 116 metres on over 6.1 kilometres of track and guarantees good fun under a starry sky. The night trail is popular with both beginners and athletes - simply everyone who wants to spend all their energy before going to sleep.
