Engadin Ski Marathon – the “Engadiner”

Mass and class alike

As the second largest cross-country skiing event in the world, the Engadin Ski Marathon is a sporting event in a class of its own. The marathon has been held regularly in the Upper Engadine on the 2nd Sunday in March since 1969. Only twice in the long history of the marathon has the event had to be cancelled at short notice. Every year more than 14,000 contestants from over 60 nations cover the 42-km-long "Engadiner" and rave about the uniqueness of this sporting event. The marathon starts in Maloja and passes St. Moritz at kilometre 15. After 42 kilometres, the participants reach the finish in S-chanf. Those who register for the half distance, the half marathon, drop out of the race at kilometre 21 in Pontresina. Every cross-country enthusiast will find his or her own personal challenge in the ski marathon, the women's race or the night run.  The St. Moritz Supersprint which promises concentrated sprinting action over the short distance of 100 meters will be held as part of the marathon week from 2021. Here the fastest sprinter of the marathon week will be discovered. The illuminated 100-metre course ends in a covered finish area with stands, a restaurant and music. This new, attractive format is aimed at spectators, who have free access to the area. The qualifying runs start at 16.00 hrs, the final runs at 18.00 hrs. Generous prize money awaits the winners.
