Hiking

On foot through a picture-book landscape

Winter hiking in St. Moritz and the Engadine means 150 kilometres of paths over frozen lakes, through snow-filled forests and valleys – pure enjoyment… The area around Lake St. Moritz is quite lively, but away from the hustle and bustle you will soon find the winter peace and quiet that characterises the whole of the Engadine. For example, in the romantic side valleys Roseg and Bever with their snow-covered pine and larch forests. A walk across the frozen Engadine lakes is almost a must. It is precisely here that the vastness of the high valley and, especially at sunset, the special light of the Engadine can be experienced at its best. The flat winter hiking trails from St. Moritz to Silvaplana and Maloja are ideal for families and – depending on snow conditions – also with prams. Then there is the path from Sils Maria into the dreamy Fex Valley, one of the most beautiful valleys in the Upper Engadine, with a stop at the nostalgic Berghotel Fex. Also recommended is the winter hiking trail from Maloja through the dense and snow-filled forest to Lake Cavloccio.
